Vaidya Jayarajan Kodikannath is a visionary, a classically trained Ayurveda doctor and an accomplished teacher representing a lineage of Ayurveda Practitioners from Kerala, India. He is the CEO and Academy Director of Kerala Ayurveda (USA) and is the President of NAMA, the National Ayurveda Medical Association in the US.

Ayurvedic Herbs for the Mind and Nervous System

In this solo episode, Colette focuses on some Ayurvedic herbs that are beneficial for rejuvenating the mind and pacifying the nervous system and talks in detail on the following herbs:

  1. Brahmi - bacopa monniera  
  2. Gotu kola - mandukaparni 
  3. Shankhapushpi - evolvulus alsinoides
  4. Ashwaghandha 

She talks about the importance of getting professional advice before taking any herbs as there are so many factors that go into choosing the right herbs and just some of the considerations taken by an Ayurvedic professional are the status of the following:

  • Ama or toxins in your body
  • Agni or digestive fire
  • Doshas
  • Srotas or channels of your body

Colette also discusses the Ayurvedic understanding of how plant energetics are affected by many factors and how plants possess a form of consciousness and the importance of respecting Ayurvedic guidelines and rituals in harvesting herbs.
